Patent Brewing Company creates beer at the intersection of art, science and history.

The name Patent is meant to invoke the process of invention. A patent is an open-source document meant to provide an explanation for an object or invention while allowing others to understand and innovate on top of that. That is the philosophy of our business: To provide a platform for the innovation of the brewing industry through a process of continuous open source improvement of brewing processes, all while making great beers.

Traditional Berlinerweiss

Each of our beers tells a story about a process or an ingredient. Our Berlinerweiss is a story about resurrection. Our “Traditional” Berlinerweiss uses yeast and bacteria isolated out of decades-old bottles stored in private collections outside of Berlin, Germany. Our grain bill is nearly 70% wheat and the mixture of organisms includes Brettanomyces yeasts that give depth and complexity to the beer unlike any Brettanomyces beer currently on the market. This beer is a mixture of light, tart, flowery, and funky all at the same time. Variants of this beer will include elderberry and peaches.

Helles German Lager

German lager traditions are some of the most important brewing traditions in the history of the world. Our line of lagers embody that history and those traditions. Our Helles is a bright and clear beer with a full body and a mild bitterness. This beer showcases the traditional malts and neutral flavors of the lager yeast. We use traditional German noble hops, Hallertauer Mittelfrueh, to add a mixture of sweet, earthy, and herbal with vivid impressions of new-mown hay, sweet spices, and dried flowers to this light, beautiful beer.

New England IPA

The best beers to showcase hops and hop aromas are in the wide varieties of IPAs on the market. We brew a series of “New England” or “hazy” IPAs that utilize our unique hop products and blends to showcase the passionfruit, pine, and citrus of different hop varieties. These beers are full in body with a mild alcoholic kick. Our hop terpenes give insane levels of aroma to these pale ales. The haziness and mouthfeel of these beers are created by high levels of flaked oats and flaked barely and low attenuating yeasts. We have explored the use of Kveik blends to get fruitier and hazier beers. Patent will always feature several IPAs with new hop varieties, hop products and interesting yeasts all in the name of making hops shine.
